Reflection Content and MIRA
Integration Spaces may invite you to submit personal reflections, check-ins, journal entries, and conversations through MIRA.
MIRA uses Claude, an artificial intelligence system developed by Anthropic, to support portions of the participant experience.
Information you voluntarily submit to MIRA may be transmitted to Claude for the purpose of generating a response or supporting your program experience.
The Human Literacy Institute does not use participant prompts, journal entries, reflections, or MIRA conversations to train artificial intelligence models.
Member MIRA conversation content is protected by access controls designed so that it is not readable by facilitators or administrators. It is processed only as necessary to provide the active MIRA interaction and related Integration Space experience.
MIRA is an educational and developmental tool. Its responses are not therapy, counseling, medical advice, psychological assessment, diagnosis, legal advice, financial advice, or crisis intervention.
You should not submit information through MIRA that you do not want processed electronically.
Artificial Intelligence and Automated Processing
The Human Literacy Institute uses artificial intelligence to support certain program functions, including MIRA and potentially portions of participant-generated reports or educational content.
Artificial intelligence is used as a tool within the program and does not replace human judgment or qualified professional care.
The Human Literacy Institute does not use automated decision-making to determine employment, credit, housing, insurance, healthcare eligibility, or other similarly significant decisions about participants.
Where Your Program Data Is Hosted
The Human Literacy Institute member application is hosted using Supabase, which provides database, authentication, storage, and other backend infrastructure.
Supabase maintains security and compliance controls for its hosted platform, including SOC 2 Type II controls.
Personal information stored within the member application may therefore be processed or stored through Supabase as necessary to provide the service.
How We Share Information
We do not sell your personal information.
We do not share personal information with third parties for their own advertising or promotional purposes.
We may provide personal information to service providers that perform specific functions on our behalf, including:
- Supabase, for application hosting, database services, storage, and authentication
- Anthropic (Claude), to power MIRA and related artificial-intelligence functionality
- Stripe, for payment processing
- Twilio, for SMS communications
These providers receive information only as necessary to provide their respective services and process information subject to their own contractual, security, and legal obligations.
Twilio, for example, treats information submitted through its services as customer data and maintains a Data Protection Addendum governing its processing of personal data.
We may also disclose information when reasonably necessary to:
- Comply with applicable law, regulation, court order, subpoena, or other lawful process
- Protect the rights, safety, security, or property of the Human Literacy Institute, our participants, or others
- Investigate fraud, abuse, security incidents, or violations of our Terms of Service
- Complete a merger, acquisition, restructuring, or other legitimate business transaction, subject to applicable privacy law
Text Messaging
The Human Literacy Institute sends program text messages only to members who have voluntarily opted in. Text messages are sent under the operating name Human Literacy Institute by YOUniversal LUV Unlimited LLC, and we use Twilio to deliver them.
How You Consent
Messaging consent is collected directly from you, in writing, on our own intake form at humanliteracyinstitute.com/intake, on the same page where you enter your mobile phone number. The consent checkbox is unchecked by default and you must select it to opt in. We do not buy, rent, or import mobile numbers from third parties.
Consent to receive text messages is not a condition of purchase. You may enroll in and complete an Integration Space, and use every member feature, without opting in to text messages.
When you submit the form, we store your consent choice with your intake record, together with the date and time of submission, so that we can demonstrate consent and honor a later request to stop messages.
A full description of where and how consent is collected, including the exact consent language shown to you, is published on our Text Messaging Opt-In page.
What Messages You Receive
If you opt in, program messages may include:
- Enrollment and account setup information
- A daily practice link during an active 21-day cohort
- Live session reminders and scheduling updates
- Occasional practice prompts related to your Integration Space
- Replies to a message you send to us
We do not send marketing or promotional text messages, and we do not send text messages on behalf of any other business.
Message Frequency and Cost
Message frequency varies. During an active 21-day cohort you can expect approximately one message per day, which is about 21 messages over the cohort, plus occasional session reminders. Outside an active cohort, messages are infrequent.
Message and data rates may apply. The Human Literacy Institute does not charge you for text messages. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.
Stopping Messages and Getting Help
Reply STOP to any message at any time to unsubscribe. You will receive one confirmation, and no further program text messages will be sent to that number. Reply HELP for assistance, or email info@humanliteracyinstitute.com to be removed.
Stopping text messages does not affect your enrollment, your member account, or your access to program content.
How We Handle Your Mobile Number
Your mobile phone number and text messaging consent record are used only to deliver the program messages described above.
Mobile phone numbers and text messaging consent information are never sold, and they are never shared with third parties or affiliates for their own marketing or promotional purposes.
We disclose a mobile number to our messaging service provider only as necessary to deliver a message you have consented to receive. That provider acts on our behalf and may not use your number for its own marketing. Twilio's current messaging policies similarly require appropriate consent and permit recipients to withdraw that consent.
Sensitive Information
Because Integration Spaces involve voluntary reflection, participants may choose to disclose information that could be considered sensitive under applicable privacy laws.
This may include information concerning health, racial or ethnic origin, religious beliefs, sexual orientation, gender identity, citizenship or immigration status, or other sensitive personal matters.
The Human Literacy Institute does not require participants to disclose sensitive information unless specifically necessary for a program feature.
When sensitive information is voluntarily provided, we use it only as reasonably necessary to provide the participant experience or as otherwise permitted by law.
Maryland law gives additional protection to several categories of sensitive data, including consumer health information, racial or ethnic origin, religious beliefs, sexual orientation, gender identity, precise geolocation, and certain other personal information.
Data Retention
We retain personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary to provide the Integration Space, operate the member account, meet legitimate business needs, and comply with applicable legal obligations.
MIRA prompts and reflections are not retained for the purpose of training artificial intelligence models.
Participant information stored within the Human Literacy Institute member application may be retained for the duration necessary to operate the participant's account and program experience and may subsequently be deleted or de-identified in accordance with our retention practices.
Certain administrative or transaction records may need to be retained longer for accounting, tax, fraud-prevention, dispute-resolution, or legal compliance purposes.
Data Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect personal information against unauthorized access, loss, misuse, alteration, or disclosure.
Our technology providers also maintain security safeguards applicable to the services they provide. For example, Supabase describes security controls across its hosted platform, while Twilio maintains contractual security requirements for customer data.
However, no electronic storage system, internet transmission, or technology platform can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
Data Breach Notification
If a data breach affecting your personal information occurs, we will notify affected individuals and applicable regulators as required by applicable law, and we will take reasonable steps to investigate, contain, and remediate the incident.
Your Privacy Rights
Depending on where you live and which laws apply, you may have rights regarding your personal information, including the right to:
- Know what information we maintain about you
- Request access to your information
- Request correction of inaccurate information
- Request deletion of certain personal information
- Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent
- Obtain information about how your personal information is used or disclosed
- Opt out of certain forms of processing where applicable
- Exercise applicable privacy rights without unlawful discrimination
Maryland residents may have rights under the Maryland Online Data Privacy Act, including rights relating to access, correction, deletion, use, disclosure, and certain opt-outs.
Residents of other states, countries, or regions, including California and the European Economic Area, may have additional rights under the privacy laws of their jurisdiction. We will honor verified privacy requests in accordance with the laws that apply to you.
To submit a privacy request, contact info@humanliteracyinstitute.com.
We may take reasonable steps to verify your identity before fulfilling a request.
Data Deletion
You may request deletion of personal information associated with your account by emailing info@humanliteracyinstitute.com.
We aim to process verified deletion requests within 30 days, subject to applicable legal requirements and permitted exceptions.
We may retain limited information when reasonably necessary to comply with law, maintain financial or transaction records, prevent fraud, resolve disputes, or establish or defend legal rights.
Deleting certain information may prevent us from continuing to provide your account, personal report, or other program features.
De-Identified and Aggregated Information
We may create aggregated or de-identified information to evaluate program effectiveness, understand participation patterns, improve curriculum, enhance technology, or conduct internal analysis.
When information is maintained as de-identified data, we do not intentionally attempt to associate it with an identifiable individual except where permitted or required by law.
Children's Privacy
The Human Literacy Institute's online services and Integration Spaces are intended for adults. Enrollment is limited to individuals who are at least 18 years of age, consistent with our Terms of Service.
We do not knowingly collect personal information online from anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 in any circumstance.
If we learn that personal information has been collected from a minor without appropriate authorization, we will take reasonable steps to delete it.
Third-Party Services
The Human Literacy Institute relies on third-party technology providers to operate certain aspects of its services.
Those providers maintain their own privacy policies, terms, security practices, and legal obligations.
This Privacy Policy describes the Human Literacy Institute's own practices and does not govern information a third party collects independently outside of providing services to us.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our programs, technology, business practices, or legal requirements.
The current version will be posted on this page with an updated Last updated date.
If we make a material change to how personal information already collected is used, we will provide additional notice or obtain consent where required by applicable law.
